In today’s modern world, even scrapbooking can be done manually or digitally. There are so many available supplies that can be found and enthusiasts prefer it rather than taking advantage of sometimes free services and softwares. But what is it that you really prefer?

The traditional scrapbooks are usually made manually. It is amazing how vast the materials for scrapbooking. It is more than just paper and scissors. There are thicker tapes, different types of paper and overlays, stamps, inks, mists, boards, scissors, and those nifty gadgets to repurpose papers. It actually makes scrapbooking so much fun, but they are a few disadvantages. It can be quite costly because of all the materials and supplies you need just to make a design for a few pieces of photos. It can also be quite messy, as you have to put up with adhesives, inks, and all the paper cut outs.

Although traditional scrapbooking is easier with doing all the layouts, the abovementioned disadvantages are what the digital scrapbooking can answer. All you need is a computer, and sometimes internet connection. Usually, these two are a must-have in the household, so that shouldn’t be a problem. Then you have to get a software in creating your digital scrapbook page. Photo editors are ok but, it will be so hard to create pages from scratch. Not even in traditional scrapbooking can you decorate a bond paper that easy. The software for digital scrapbook usually offers templates that are ready for your customization. All you need to do is define the size of the paper, add your picture, add text for your title and maybe for your journal entry, and then some more embellishments. Then you will save it in a file format based on the type of software. Then have it printed in a photo lab. The only disadvantage of a digital scrapbook is that it needs getting used to, other than that you are all set.

So to make further comparisons, if we will look at the outputs, the physical appearance is quite different. The traditional scrapbook page can be literally in 3D while the digital scrapbook page when printed out is just in one smooth surface. The traditional scrapbook pages can work for gifts that you would want to really show off and show how laborious you made it, but a digital scrapbook can be sent online through mails or even social networks and reach out for your loved ones across the sea. With regards to price range, a pack of materials in a certain theme can be equal to a software for digital scrapbook. So it is up to you which one suits you more, but what is important is that you are able to preserve your memory whether the traditional way or digitally.

What do I prefer? I like both methods. I like scrapbooking with pictures that were taken years ago by film, it is better than scanning them and to preserve them. And the digital scrapbook is great for digital photos because I love also putting embellishments on them before they get to be printed.
