Create a Chinese New Year Greeting Card

Many are not celebrating Chinese New Year. But you don’t have to be Chinese to do so. With all the festivities, and traditions, you can still create a greeting card with a theme around a Chinese New Year. But you do have to learn what the elements are in which a Chinese New Year is composed so that you can design your greeting card according to it. Below are some of the traditions you can use. All you need are drawings or better yet pictures displaying these traditions. Take a look at some of the ideas below.

Decorate your greeting card with red and gold. Red is usually the color that Chinese use for good luck and driving away bad spirits. Gold on the other hand symbolizes money and wealth. This combination along with beautiful calligraphy can be a great greeting card anyone will receive. If you have seen a Hong Bao, this is a red envelope with usually gold calligraphy or Chinese designs where elders put money in it to give it to the young children. So this is basically the idea, and you can even design the envelope for the greeting card in the same manner if you will use a printable calendar.

If you have pictures of lion dances, put it in your greeting card. Lion dances are usually performed by men, even boys under a long lion costume. These dances are usually made on the street or any wide space area by establishments sponsored by rich people. These dances symbolize attraction of good luck and wealth for those establishments.

Fireworks are used in Chinese New Year to symbolize the driving away of bad forces or bad luck. But it also shows off the joy of celebrating the event. So if you have pyrotechnic pictures, these are nice to include in your greeting card.

In terms of food which basically the festivities are surrounded by them, Moon cakes and sticky rice are the most popular. Moon cakes symbolize the lunar calendar and the sticky rice symbolizes the prosperity and good relationship of the family that they will always stick together. Rounded fruits like oranges and tangerines are great gifts that Chinese give away during their visits to their relatives as these symbolize money and wealth. Noodles are also a must as they symbolize long life. Pick whatever food that you can chance upon and put it in your card. Even fortune cookie is a great idea.

Buddha is one of the most influential persons in Chinese New Year. He called on to 12 different animals on the spring festival and named each year for them. 2011 is the year of the rabbit. So in here you can design your greeting card with Buddha pictures, a rabbit, or both.

As you can see there are a lot of ideas on how to decorate your greeting card. There are still decorations where the Chinese go all out. There are also charms and crystals that are giving different kind of luck depending on a person’s birthday. These are a lot, so make your Chinese New Year greeting card before the celebrations begin.
